The Delta 18-900L Drill Press is expensive but you get what you pay for. It is a quality piece of equipment, easy to use and very versatile. It is not perfect but it does not have any significant drawback, apart from the price.
The Delta 18-900L Drill Press features 16 drill speeds, ranging from 170 up to 3000 RPM. It uses an auto-tensioning belt drive system for speed changes. You open the lid, push a handle to loosen the belt, move the belt, then pull the handle to tighten the belt and close the lid. It is quick and easy to change speeds. But it is possible to argue that given the price of the Delta 18-900L Drill Press you should not need to play around with the belt when you want to change the speed.
The laser is very handy, it is easy to use and guarantees pinpoint accuracy. Note that if you move the table, you need to adjust the laser. Fortunately, this is very easy to do, you simply turn two hex screws. The Delta 18-900L Drill Press has a LED light for better visibility. But note that the laser hair cross is a little bit difficult to see when using the LED light.
The Delta 18-900L Drill Press has a 0.75 HP motor. It is enough for most tasks but if you need a powerful heavy duty drill, you may prefer a drill press with a 1 HP motor. Another advantage is that the drill has a relatively small footprint despite being a large and heavy drill press.

Just got my new drill press and it more than surpasses my expectations. It did take two to set it up due to the weight but other than that the set up was very straight forward and only took about 45 minutes before I was in business. The laser really helps with getting the drill exactly where I what it and speeds the whole process. No more trying to line things up by eyesight. Just put the crosshairs of the laser where I want it and drill away. Wish I’d purchased this drill press a long time ago…
